20 WEEKS OF PREGNANCY;SIZE ,WEIGHT AND DEVELOPMENT

HOW YOUR BABY'S GROWING

Up until now your baby has been measured from head to rump but from this point on the measurement will be from crown to  heel. This week your baby measures about 25.6cm or the length of a banana and weight about 300g .
You are halfway to your due date and your baby is becoming more active every day. Even if you are still waiting to feel that first exciting kick, your baby is busy flexing and stretching / She is probably sucking her thumbs or fingers.. too.
At your anomaly scan which will take place between 18 weeks and 20 weeks.. the sonographer will measure your baby's head circumference. This is because it can be difficult to measure your baby's length accurately when she's curled up.
A whitish coat of a slick  fatty substance called vernix  caseosa begins to cover your baby/ It acts as a moisturizer  and lubricant helping to protect her delicate skin from drying out in the amniotic fluid./  Vernix  also plays a role in birth by helping  to ease your baby down the birth canal.

Most of mums to be star to feel little flutters between 18 weeks and 20weeks as their baby wriggles inside. If you've been pregnant before you'll probably recognize you baby's movement even earlier than this.
You may not identify your baby's movements at first only to discover that what you think is a gassy  tummy is actually your baby doing back flips/
If your placenta is  at the front of your bump  you may feel movements slightly later  in your pregnancy / Your sonographer will check the  position of your placenta at your anomaly scan which takes place at around 18  to 20 weeks
Make a note of when you first start feeling  you baby move and tell your midwife at your next visit.

SEVENTEEN WEEKS PREGNANCY

SYMPTOMS AND BABY SIZE

HOW YOUR BABY GROW

Your baby is now nearly 13cm from head to bottom and weighs the same as a turnip. about 140g . His unique fingerprints have now finished forming, and his hearing is improving every day/ If you play music he may even move around in your womb.
A white fatty substance called  myelin is slowly wrapping around your baby's spinal cord.  Mylin is important as it helps speed up messages between your baby's brain  and the nerves around his body. It also   provides  protection and insulation to his nerves.
Your baby's recent growth means his head and body are more in proportion than they were in earlier weeks. His skeleton will continue  to harden from rubbery cartilage to bone. As he gets bigger. the umbilical cord his lifeline to your placenta, grows stronger and thicker.
